mblaise
I just spent several days photographing some of the abandoned sections of streets and roads in the Houston and Harris County area. If anyone is interested in this sort of thing, I can make a web site and try to tell the history of the abandoned parts or maybe someone can provide the information. Thanks. rapturematt
Sounds like a cool history project. I am sure you have photos of some of the Riverside streets. There are several that are not being used since 288 was built.

Subdude
Absolutely. I think there is already a similar site. It came up in the discussion about Old Main Street Road.
JLWM8609
I think that site referenced in the Old Main Street thread belongs to the original poster, if this "mblaise" is the same as "Marty Blaise" of "The Blaise Page".

mblaise
I'll be making the web pages as soon as I get a chance. I have about 100 photos of abandoned roads and streets, taken in Houston and Harris County. Stand by for awhile so I can get things set up and I will post the link when ready. Some of the abandoned streets I took pictures of included North Houston-Rosslyn, FM 529, Mangum and Rosslyn. Hope to have things online soon. More photos coming soon. If anyone has information on other abandoned roads in Houston, please let me know. You ought to check out La Porte and Morgan's Point in east Harris County. When those cities were platted, they set aside places for street grids, some of which were built, others which weren't, and still others that seemed to have been built (or at least graded) and then left alone. The best way to scout for these is to use the City of La Porte's GIS system. Whitesman
Site is online - http://waltrip.890m.com/roads/roads.htmlInteresting information. On the Mangum Road item. It was there after the R/R tracks were built as a small dirt road, and went over the tracks at a slight angle. When the road was blacktoped it still was at the same angle. When the city raised the R/R tracks on that R/R line, all the crossings were modified and Mangum Road was modified to zig-zag across the tracks at more of a 90 degree angle to the tracks. Marty Blaise
I have been compiling my photos of abandoned streets in Houston as well as many photos of abandoned highways and bridges. I built a website where you can see the photos and learn a little bit of the history. It has taken quite a while to put this together. I hope you enjoy it. In some cases, I used Google Earth and other sources for aerials that help show the history of the areas. It's not a fancy website, just one that tells many stories. So, here is the link:http://abandonedroads.zxq.netThank you.Marty BlaiseHouston, TexasAugust 2012

sevfiv
One thing - the Old Main St. loop road link points to Northline and Ora to Opelousas.Oh, and here are some Ora photos from last year here on HAIF:http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/25321-old-arena-on-hempstead-near-dacoma/page__hl__road#entry390376
kylejack
I saw that you didn't want to take photos near the airport on the Telephone write-up, but feel free to, because photography from public right of ways is totally legal. Also, I see you have Hutcheson/Ball listed as a future project. That's a cool area. At Hutcheson and Freund there is a cement monument for a cement company that was there back in the 1920s:

rsb320
I can think of another one, but haven't been by there in quite some time. It's Old Chocolate Bayou Rd., east of Cullen and north of South BW8. However, it may be redeveloped these days.
