Once A Strip Club, Always A Strip Club

So, in my continuing series on the Houston Post 1989, here's some more ads and other things. What I found most interesting was that of the several "adult" clubs advertising, all of the addresses lined up to still "adult" entertainment 25 years later. There was even an article on the police raiding La Bare, which is still operating under that name to this day.

The Service Station at 6166 Richmond Avenue. I wonder if they let customers "pump their own gas"... (apologies for the preceding lack of taste). This is now Centerfolds.

Bogey's Showgirls at 6340 Westheimer Road is now Scores Houston. (The reason why the rest of these are super-large is I had to use an external source to host, ran out of space)

Babe's Cabaret recently closed, but it hasn't been anything since (5614 Hillcroft)

2618 Winrock Blvd. was Caligula XXI, which is now Vivid Live.

These are all in the "sketchy" part of Richmond, which I guess developed during this decade.

The Scores just changed their name, and before that they were something else. Also the "Vivid Live" across the street was the Key Club, which I believe was another name before that. Seems like the strip clubs that haven't changed their names that I can think of are Treasures and La Bare.

I do enjoy the old advertisements. Things got real in the late 80's, because before that they were mostly drawn pictures and not photographs of actual women.

The Scores Houston changed its name 2 or 3 times when i lived on Winrock. It was all star gentlemans club at one point and Baby Dolls before that if I recall.

The Vivid Live was a Penthouse branded club for much of the 2000's. It became Penthouse around '02 or '03 and was Caliguala before that. Penthouse expanded the building when they took over.

Babe's Caberet on Hilcroft is still going under the name Babee'Os. It is definitely not closed.

I don't think of this area as sketchy. but perhaps that means I'm a little sketchy?

For some reason I thought Babee Os and Babes Cabaret were interchangeable, sorry about that.

$3 filet mignon! Even 25 years ago that sounded questionable. FWIW, there was a "gentlemen's club" on the Gulf Freeway just outside the beltway that started off as a Rick's, same ownership as the one in the Galleria area, then had a different name after Rick's tanked. Then the building set vacant for several years but has recently re-opened as a party and reception venue. I couldn't tell you what it looks like inside - I imagine any stage with a pole in the middle has been removed - but the facility does seem to have generous parking behind the building which sits close to the access road.

It was called Sugar's for a while, then also called Vixxen's.  It closed because it was within 1500 feet of Grace Community Church, which, I believe, is a law in Harris, or is it Texas?  Either way.. that was a big deal at the time.

The strip club at 8926 Gulf Freeway (currently "The Landing Strip", previously "Sinfully Yours") definitely looks like it was originally a Chinese restaurant once, but not for years. How many years has it been a strip club?

It was Lucky Dragon and Oriental Gourmet Buffets before becoming a strip club. TABC license ran out for Lucky Dragon in 2006 and the strip club's started in 2007.

Regarding the title of this thread, I'd be willing to wager that the Marquis 2 building never becomes a strip club again.

Ha! When I saw that this thread had been resurrected today, the Marquis 2 was the first place I thought of before I'd even opened it to read the new posts.

I remember a place called Babe's on the northeast corner of Richmond at the 610 feeder. This would have been in the late 60s or early 70s. Anyone know if there was any relation to the later Babe's on Hillcroft?

maybe it was Baby O's

a good friend (or five) used to dance there, and she looks like she could still pull some bucks outta that place 30 years later... LOL

My 1980s tour guide (some of you have received this) mentions that Baby'O was at 5154 Richmond. I can see the confusion, the Babe's Cabaret later became "Babee'O" (which later became Wonderland Men's Club, which is now closed).

Baby'O didn't become another strip club...but it looks like it razed in the early 1990s.
