lockmat
This is a gorgeous consulate. Is or going to be in Houston? And if so where? Can someone copy and paste the renderings?http://www.kirksey.com/project/confidential_consulate
lockmat
Actually, it does say Houston in the information field, I just didn't notice it. I guess the confidential part was the country, which isn't hidden very well. Opinions of the country aside, this is one awesome building.
livincinco
Not sure if it's going to happen though because I found this press release that makes it look like they selected Studio Red. That may be just a design submission. http://www.studioredarchitects.com/blog/tag/saudi-consulate/#

Urbannizer
Is Ziegler Cooper the architect now? Or are they just showing off their once-proposed design for the project?    "The Royal Saudi Arabian Consulate conceptual design proposes a two-building complex that consists of a four-story rectangular building for the Consulate offices and a four-story structure for the diplomatic quarters. The Consulate building façade is made up of a dressed limestone, clear glass and an intricately patterned glass curtain wall. The clear glass wall on the lower portion of the building creates the sense that the building hovers above the ground, while revealing a portion of the interior. The main entrance to the Consulate building faces a uniquely designed courtyard with water features throughout and a vehicular drop-off entry. The ZC+O team has integrated multiple sustainability strategies into the Saudi Arabian Consulate design to achieve a LEED Gold design."    http://zieglercooper.com/saudi-consulate/

Dakota79
This will be on Wilcrest, south of Meadowglen. That doesn't look as good as the original rendering!
monarch
everything is looking just splendid, except the building itself. Â what happened? Â the original concept was gorgeous. Â just how does the above new concept look at night? Â palm trees, are hereby exotic and incredible. Â water works, are generous / massive. Â where are their personal apartments? Â would like to reference full concept to gather an overall opinion. Â thanks urbannizer for sharing!

Luminare
Am I the only one who thinks we should have a dedicated street for consulates? A consulate avenue of sorts somewhere within 610 preferably near the inner city? Idk just a random thought among many I have everyday
cloud713
That sounds like something a zoned city would do... Lol
Triton
My father worked at a building off of 610 that houses Aramco Services (Saudi Arabian) and you can imagine the security was incredibly tight. I can imagine it will be the same way here just as well. Saudi Arabia attacked ISIS.
toxtethogrady
Even with the design change, it still seems to be evocative of the architecture of the region. Just not very tall. They also appear to have remove the residential wing (if that's what it was).
BigFootsSocks
Yeah I feel like the only thing that's changed is the building itself but that still feels slightly Middle Eastern to me.
monarch
ok, let's do this! i have worked all over the THEATER OF AFGHANISTAN since 2004, as per the US government. i have done business in iraq, saudi arabia, kuwait, iran (persia), sharjah, uae, lebanon. i have vacationed in abu dhabi, uae, dubai, uae, turkey, qatar, egypt, morocco, algeria. dubai, uae, has been like a second home to me. the point of all this... i know the middle east! and the newest consulate rendering depicted as per houston... is not typical middle eastern architecture.  now, let's take this cage above.  add in a higher platform, which probably hereby includes underground parking. let's add in a beautiful multi storied glass entry... complete with the government seal as per saudi arabia. let us now add in some extremely lush middle eastern landscaping.  you know, the typical super serious and expensive palm trees... like, all over the place let us now add in some very american architecturally appealing water works.  some seriously expensive patterned driveway.  let's add in a hideous rust colored paint job. alas... we have the new saudi embassy concept for houston!  now, let us TAKE AWAY all, that we have added.  all, that we have hereby included.  take away the rust colored paint job.  and what do we have.... that's right, a cage! Montrose1100
I like the mystery and seclusion behind it's design. Some Bourne stuff right there y'all. It will now take the crown of the most solitary looking consulate design from China.Mexico's could use a facelift.
cloud713
I saw a rendering for this today that looked different from both the previous renderings we've seen... I think it might of been on HBJ?

Idk just a random thought among many I have everyday  That's actually a brilliant idea imo, only it seems a bit late now.   I really like the screening on the design - a climate like Houston should have more of that - but the overall proportions aren't the best. Luminare
It's not just those areas of the world as well. We also have a good number of European Consulates. Houston is after all one of the biggest port cities in the world and plays big in international commerce so its going to have quite a few from all around the world.
