Apologies. I tried to search and did not turn up the original thread for this topic...

Looks like the project at the corner of Heights and 11th has started. The historic house is being moved to make room for another strip center. While I think this is a ridiculous project, I am still curious as to what the the new strip will look like. Anyone have a rendering?

The original plans for the corner of 11th and Heights have been scrapped. The big blue house is being moved over one lot to the north. A new house will be built on the corner. The strip center is no longer part of the plans. This is a good outcome.

That is an excellent outcome indeed. Of course that house is on the large side. A carefully crafted addition and renovation could have brought big money without splitting a lot. But, no need for me to sound ungrateful that the original plan was cancelled. Another house is definitely the lesser of 2 evils.

Is Burgerzilla a Lance Fagan restaurant? I had also heard at one time it was going to be a wine bar, but isn't it too close to a school?

I was originally told a 'wine bar' by the Tamale folk, but it seemed they themselves didn't have the full story. After a while they got their story right and called it a 'sandwich shop that serves adult beverages'. It used to be a Quickie Mart that sold beer, etc so I'm guessing they'll get the permit that allows them serve drinks assuming most of their sales comes from food. Essentially the same permit that the Washington SPECS got and lost.

  • 4 months later...

Happened to be rolling by there and noticed a HUGE house that looks like it's going to be moved in the near future.

Didn't have the camera with me, but from what I can see, it looks like it's going to go down 11th. Anyone has any news on it? I'd love to take a few pics of it when it's moving, the thing is HUGE.

It's been that way for a couple of months... There is a thread on here somewhere about it. Long story short, moving it over to the north, so they can sell the corner lot and build another house... "Stack 'em deep, make 'em cheap!" ... Shame IMO.

Yeah.. it's been sitting on rails for months.. They were going to build a "strip center" there, but decided against it.. there's a thread around here somewhere about it..

I wonder when/if they're ever going to move the thing..

MODS: Please merge with http://www.houstonar...n-heights-blvd/

I would welcome any info Evans-Davis might have as to why the house is still sitting on skids.

Not defending it but I would think the reason has something to do with the ground being saturated ever since they put it on skids. If you think back, we really haven't had a spell long enough to dry the ground to support that type of weight.

Good point...the rainy season did start about the same time as this thread.

Maybe slightly off topic, but a cafe just opened up in the long-vacant center next to the jacked up house. It's called Lola's, and served a pretty decent breakfast when I went. Only problem: now spending way too much time in establishments named Lola's. You know the one I'm talking about.

I would think it would be expensive to have all that equipment tied up for so long.. but.. whatever.. at least they're not tearing it down..

I agree but all the expensive equipment has been in and out of there.... I don't see them having much work for the same reason of not moving it sooner... Too much water prolly really kills the house moving business...

I'm wondering where they are going with it. If they'd planned to go east on 11th/pecore/main to 45, That is Not happening anytime soon with Main all tore up. I'd love to see it driving down Pecore though, i could watch it from my front porch.

I think they are just going to push it as far North on that lot as possible then sub-divide the lot.

yes, that was the last plan i heard. there is *another* thread about it on here somewhere but i think it started out as another subject and kinda got hijacked. anyway, the owner was going to build another strip mall but then decided to build another house.
