Event details

BCO presents BOATS, Bats & Brew

August 12, 2017 – 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM

Fonde Center Parking Lot (meet behind Sabine Lofts next to the bayou)

110 Sabine Street

Houston, TX 77007

The moon will be big, but not quite full

Grab your kayak or canoe and let's paddle up to the bats (but not too close :)) It will be a sunset paddle that will end in the dark, so please be prepared. Lights, water shoes, pfd - let's play!

"There is something amazing going on underneath the Waugh Drive Bridge near Buffalo Bayou. About 250,000 of Houston’s best-kept secrets have been quietly residing within the crevices of Waugh Drive Bridge for a number of years. “The Waugh Bridge Bat Colony” consists of Mexican free-tailed bats that emerge nightly to stretch their wings & feed on area insects." http://www.houstontx.gov/parks/batpage.html

BOATS

Bring your own kayak or canoe. BCO has some loaner boats available; please contact the office if you need one (you do need to be a BCO Member to borrow a boat) Austin Canoe and Kayak does overnight rentals, call 713-660-7000 to get a boat.

BATS

The bats start leaving the bridge somewhere between 8:15 and 8:30. We will get on our boats this evening to enjoy and watch their amazing life on the water.

BREWS

And what about the brews...?

We'll bring some beverages to share after we pack up and then maybe head out to somewhere close by.

Please bring a headlamp, water shoes, mosquito spray and quick dry clothes (no jeans).

This event is open to kids who know how to kayak and swim. Please note – everyone needs a life jacket, and this event will be in the dark

Looking forward to seeing everyone tonight for our paddle on the bayou!
