Ierek is pleased to announce its international conference on “Urban Transport strategies for Sustainable Development (UTSSD)” 2016 with Kore University of Enna, Italy. The conference will give you the chance to present your research in front of an expert group in transportation engineering, it is a unique way to take your research to new heights. Moreover, it will provide the opportunity to exchange ideas and learn more about the latest developments in the field of transportation and urban planning.
The aim of the conference is to make international researchers and students come together to help in changing cities lives by discussing problems and find a solution to most crucial issues in transportation and urbanization. The conference will discuss the impacts of Transportation on socio-economic systems, the negative impacts such as congestion, pollutions, accidents, and mobility gaps, and the positive impacts such as achieving economic development, improving sustainability, health, and enhance lifestyles.

It’s Friday Night and what better way to spend it than in the woods… with a Full Moon!

Watch where you are going… you never know what will be lurking in the shadows when the full moon is out.


 
Bring your headlamps just case the moonlight is covered by clouds or there might be areas shaded by thick trees.  Be sure to bring water.  Bugs shouldn’t be a problem with the cool weather.

We will meet at 6:30pm and start the hike at 6:45pm.

Did you know an average American consumes at least 2,400 calories during the Super Bowl? On Saturday, February 11 shake off your Super Bowl sluggishness – come out and enjoy everything the park has to offer! Trails, bird sanctuary, kayaking, fishing, sand volleyball and much more!

After a short hike around the park, we’ll stay for a picnic. We’ll cook some staples if you bring a dish. And…we have beer sponsor!!

From Webster, TX, our friends at Saloon Door Brewing will provide some beer…for FREE! (while supplies last). Feel free to bring some of your own drinks (no glass please.)

Also, bring a chair as we’ll pick a spot in the park to hang out at.

Activity day at Challenger Seven park! Did you know an average American consumes at least 2,400 calories during the Super Bowl? Bring a dish and drinks to share - yes - we'll still have plenty of snacks.

The park is almost immediately off 45 South from Houston, towards Galveston. Challenger Seven Memorial is named in honor of the seven NASA astronauts who lost their lives in the explosion of the Challenger Space Shuttle and is truly an oasis for everyone to enjoy.

Bayou City Outdoors presents: We Love Houston – on Bikes! (Valentine Edition)

Love is in the air and best experienced from the seat of your bike! 


 
We start in the lovely Memorial Park and head towards the iconic “We Love Houston” sculpture.  Along the way we will swing by Love Park, cruise the bayous we love, check out some of the new bike trails and just generally have a fun ride with friends in the bayou city. 


 
No bike, no worries.   You can pick up a bike from a B-Cycle kiosk around town. Check their map and info here:  http://houston.bcycle.com Please note though – we are starting at Memorial Park which is a ways from the local Bcycle stations.  If you are a member of Bayou City Outdoors and do not have a bike, we can loan you a bike for the ride. But you MUST call the office 1 to 2 weeks in advance to arrange for the loaner bike.

BCO and REI present Backpacking 101: Packing Light

Backpacking really is the ultimate way to get away from it all.  But, do you ever wonder; "Can I really carry that heavy pack”?


 
Do you dream of sleeping under the stars, waking to the sound of nothing but nature as far as you can see. Imagine, after a day of hiking through forests, mountains & deserts, you get to relax in a remote campsite using only what you have brought in your backpack.  Awesome, and even better if that backpack is the right weight! 

 

Sound difficult?  Or, maybe your thinking that light gear is always expensive gear?  Not necessarily!  Come out and learn about packing light. 

 

We will mainly be talking about the actual packing of your pack, which will also include menu planning, gear lists, what you REALLY can leave behind, sharing pack space you’re your buddies, safety advice, and other essential wisdom nuggets every backpacker ought to know.  We will also completely pack a backpack with all the essentials, including water treatment options.  

  

Find us in the back of the store in the warehouse (by the restrooms) 7:00 - 8:30PM; REI, 7538 Westheimer Rd. (at Voss), Houston, TX 77063.  Look for the white and green Bayou City Outdoors signs.

Get out of the office and head over to Local Pour in Midtown.  Local Pour is hidden in the very back of the strip mall.  Look for their LP sign.  And they have a good size parking!


 
If you have been looking for a group to explore Houston, do outdoor activities and meet people in your age range, you have finally found it! We are Houstonians (new, original and somewhere in between) in our 20’s & 30’s and we love the outdoors!


 
With a zest for adventure, we have day trips, weekend trips & international trips.  So if you have 2 weeks of vacation or “unlimited”…you can find new adventures to fit your schedule.   Come out and meet others interested in hiking, biking, camping, kayaking, rock climbing and more!

Are you new to BCO and curious to discover the ins, outs, and what all a social, outdoor activity group like us has to offer?  Have you been stalking the calendar for months (or years) and haven't joined yet... maybe you just have a few more questions?  Or, you're already a member but you might need some tips on navigating the website or you're still a little nervous about attending an event or outing alone.  Just want to come say hi? Do it! You'll meet folks in the same exact boat as you and you'll learn a whole lot about all the fun Bayou City Outdoors has to offer.
 
Our calendar can be a little overwhelming with 80 to 100 events every month, so let us explain some of our favorites and tell you everything you need to know about being a BCO member. We'll fill you in on the perks, discounts, loaner gear, buddy program, website, RSVP system, tips and so much more.
 
We work hard to make this a little more “formal” (if we could ever be accused of that!) than our Meet & Greets.  Time and size permitting, we will have a presentation, Q&A, and social time too.  We may even have a few Event Leaders on hand to talk about their upcoming events!
 
Come on out and then get ready for a whole new adventure filled life!
 
Parking – Off Street Parking.  Parking could be a little bit of a challenge so give yourself time and find an easy spot on the surrounding streets.  There is no charge for the event but you do pay need to for your own dinner.
