This collection of stainless steel shafts transform the Wortham Theater's otherwise useless east wall into a blank canvas for glittering art. Each of the seven pillars is made up of artwork from local children cut into 150 metal panels. They're supposed to represent a part of Houston's history - agriculture, energy, medicine, manufacturing, philanthropy, technology and transportation. But it appears some of the children didn't remain on topic. We're not sure if the "Don't Do Drugs" panel represents medicine, or philanthropy. Either way, the children selected were all born in 1986, the year of Houston's sesquicentennial. At night they are illuminated from inside and look like giant lanterns.

Your Thoughts

There is one comment.

One of my classes for this term in school is The Art Of Being Human. For this project I choose to lool for civic art since I did not know much about it and wanted it from my home state. This is beautiful. I would love to see it in the Houston advertisement we get in the Sunday Paper. I would have made the trip from Manfield Tx to see itThank you for this great piece of art.Stephanie
